Subject Painful shoulder

Well, I didn't actually write all of the new blog articles yesterday, but correcting everything and adding all the new stuff to it has been quite intense. Escpecially considering I am not really being ergodynamically responsible with my current keyboard/mouse set up. Either this chair is too low, or my desk is too high. Either way I need to drastically adjust one of the two in order to maintain a steady flow of webcontent for my growing legions of faithful readers... ;)

It has been a lot of fun though, no doubt about it, just reading through old material and making a selection of what I want to share with you first. The two new blog stories don't seem te have much in common at first glance, but once you dig in to this world I'm building, you will find that a lot of its uniqueness stems from the way reality can be altered through the use of magic and that the city of Quatropolis has had some major alterations done to it with the help of many great magical innovations. The city actually breathes magic in a sense, for without the use of the Zhulite Magical Apparati - which run on shards of lyrium, which in turn are a byproduct of divine intervention - the city would quickly stagger to a halt, with food shortages increasing rapidly, thus causing civil unrest; which seems to be just around the corner in the best of times, especially in such densly populated urban sprawls like Quatropolis.

The main theme is that yes, magic brings a lot of prosperity to the Zenian nation, as well as to the rest of the world for that matter, but it has turned into a dependancy for literally milions of citizens, who rely on the proper use of thaumic energy to get what they need to survive. (In a way, much like our current dependency on electricity and fossil fuels)
Certainly the Gardener disapproves of all this, but he might just be waiting for the bubble to collapse on its own. Zhul on the other hand has a view of a looming future horizon; a view which mortals lack and a lot of immortals, deities and demigods just tend to ignore. He should know better than to push his followers ever forward in the field of applied thaumatology. However, technically, as long as there are Deities who will meddle in the affairs of man, then lyrium should not be hard to come by.

The Zhulites have regulated the world supply of Lyrium ever since man found a proper use for the stuff, but now, new and powerful players are arising. Merchant Corporations, such as Daktra Trading and the Lucian Alliance, as well as a pair of powerful Greenskin prophets, known as the Hands of Omonos, who might for the first time in history unite the Orcish lands under one doublehanded fist.

Another situation that is severely getting out of hand is that of a rogue dragon who intends to conquer a realm of his own, instead of remaining non-territorial, or even super-territorial as most dragons do (viewing themselves as superior to the sentient races in every way, they feel no need to infringe upon their pityful attempts to divide the land amongst each other)
This dragon, who calls himself Parpheus seems to enjoy the delicate game of politcs between nations, but he uses his draconic powers as leverage on the negotiation table. The other Dragons seem to be unable to keep him in check though, because frankly, he is a giant amongst his kin, a fluke of nature if you will, at least twice as powerful physically as his father, the Dragon Mordeus, who rules the Fey kingdom with his wife Rilan.

All of these factions vie for control for the world's largest deposit of raw liquid lyrium: the sacred Blue Mountain. It is the epitomy of long term energy storage. Encased within thick walls of Palladium, the mana bubbles and fizzles with increasing intensity as one delves deeper into the mountain's subteranean levels. Just off the centre to this well, the six-hundred year old laboratory of the prophet himself remains untouched by regular mortals and only those immune to the vast thaumic radiation there or those using some advanced protective armor, dare enter a place of such tremendous potency.

It was under those circumstances that Zhul had managed to carve out his greatest thaumatological laboratory, where he built the Apparatus Perpetuum and where the first draconic egg had hatched. But that was over six-hundred years ago, and times were changing for the Zhulites. To add to the instability of this situation the Zhulites were not getting along too well with each other either. Allthough many different Zhulite traditions had been established over the centuries, none of these could have foreseen what kind of schisms the return of the Cult of the Final Night would cause.

This mysterious cult had separated itself from the main body of believers when the followers of Zhul were just taking their first careful steps into the world, expanding from the Blue Mountain on outward. These first cultists however were already preparing themselves for a final prophecy, which they had deduced from what little is known about Zhul's final night on the belly of Iawat. They believe that Zhul would come back at a certain point in time, when the mana level in the world reaches a critical state, in order to destroy the creation that had allowed him to become what he is today. Not any of the Apparati he had designed of course, but instead; the Noble Dragon race would have to be eradicated by their patron god. To prepare for this event the Cult of the Final Night trained its people and their eventual allies, to learn how to fight the dragons to the best of their ability. So when the day would come that Zhul would send his wrath down upon these magnificently powerful creatures, the Cultists would rush to his aid and use what had been passed on through many generations as dragon slaying lore, in full effect. Thereby ending the reign of the Draconic Dynasty as their Lord would wish it.

The Church of Zhul faces an enormous task in keeping their own people together, maintaining their most fundamental beliefs and at the same time competing in a cutthroat economy for what has always been theirs by default. Times are definetely changing, but will they be for better or worse?

More on these new storylines will be posted soon in my blog! This was just a slight teaser for y'all.

Cheers!
