The Civilized

Before the great plague was set loose upon the world, it was governed for a large part by the Kingdom of Turil. These humans were very successful in bringing their culture to other races and used their colonies abroad to maintain a firm grip on world trade. They’ve been expanding their empire since the time of the great prophet Zhul, around six hundred years ago. At its greatest point in time, just before the plague hit, the empire spanned almost half the know world. These days the humans from Turil have all but retreated to their central homeland, Turil Isle, which by no coincidence is at the center of all world maps.

So the last two hundred years the human race has tried to recover from the effects of the plague, while the Rontra and the Stoutfolk steadily filled in the gaps the humans left. The  two newcomers on the world stage took over much of the Turilian culture, but with a very different outlook on the world.

The Stoutfolk had had to endure much oppression during the times of Turilian occupation and so they naturally leaned towards a strong centralized government, which would come in the form of the Proudfoot Dynasty. The Proudfoot Empire was ruthless in its enslavement of both the Caninites and the Taurians, using those slaves to power their economy and military.

In the current age the Proudfoot Empire seems to have the upper hand in the game of global politics. However, with their armada firmly dug in at the borders of the Solarian junglelands they need to play their cards carefully in order to gain leverage over the other nations. The Emperor has his goldencrusted fingers in nearly all of the worlds governmental hubs, through a well organized string of embassies that work together and coordinate the foreign policies that their Imperial rulers have established.

The Rontra had a very different outlook on the world, for their oppression had been limited to the coastal regions, where the colonies had been. Much of the Rontra lands had remained untouched by the exploits of the Turilian government, except for the region of Ragan and parts of its neighbours, where the Royal Wizards of Turil had dropped their Anti-Thaumic bombs in an effort to destroy the hearth of the plague.

So as the humans abandoned their colonies and headed back home, the Rontra quickly established a new government which would be known as the Rontra Republic. These days the republic is a strong federation of states that maintains a large fleet of trade vessels and supports free trade. The Rontra have migrated to many other trade hubs in the world, but are always met with caution by humans, for the Rontra people are still considered to be responsible for spreading the plague two hundred years ago.

The Rontra no longer consider themselves akin to animals, unlike the Nepharim, the Caninites and the Taurians, who still have a strong bond with the animal world.
