The Fey are a group of species that hail from the Ancient Woodlands, also called the Fey Kingdom. These days the Fey are ruled by two dragons, but this was not always so. In fact Elven Royalty still exists and is as strong as ever. The Fey however were among the first to acknowledge the wisdom and might the first dragons possessed. They welcomed them as their new rulers and nothing much changed in the Fey Kingdom except that a top layer was added to the hierarchy. The pair of dragons from then on pledged to protect the fey people and their homeland from any outside threats.
From ancient times the Elves have lived in harmony with their environment and had discovered that they shared their homeland with the very small Gnomish people as well as the much larger and physically powerful Arborians. The Gnomes seemed to possess a talent for magic unequaled by any of the other races, while the Arborians adopted the role of being their caretakers and defenders. The latter having the appearance of walking and talking trees; they are the ideal forest guardians.
The Fey have always fiercely defended their homeland from Greenskin raids and invasions from the civilized races. Even though they consider every tree to be sacred, they do allow some diplomatically agreed upon lumbermills on their land. The Arborians supervise the export of lumber and do this in a way that the integrity of the woods is maintained. This method has caused the ancient woods to flourish throughout the ages and still generates enough income for the Kingdom’s economy to prosper.
Note to GMs and players: Though the ruling class in Fey society consists of a cooperation between the Elven Royal family and the dragon couple, Mordeus and Rilan, this mostly means that they are the people who deal with foreign policies and diplomacy. The gnomes in turn, are considered very sacred by all the Elves, because of their inherent magical affinity, and they are often sought out for their views on the world. The Arborians have been around for as long as there have grown trees on Iawat's belly, but they never aspired to anything more than being the stallwart defenders of the Ancient Woodlands, warding their sacred groves from raiders and invaders. All three are equally playable and do not necessarily need to have been born in the Fey Kingdom itself. A few Arborians can be found in Ol'Darza, and variants of the species can also be found in distant Solaria, where there is a much more tropical climate. A gnome without some magical affinity however, must have an adequate storydriven explanation for why this is. Finally, all three of these races have an above average life expectancy, though gnomes tend to age a little more quickly initially and elves retain a youthful look up until a very old age; Arborians in turn have fresh green foillage when young which tends to flow into yellow, red and brown as the centuries pass, and finally completely fall off in the winter of their lives.
