The Stonewrought

The Stonewrought are the races that have the natural elements of stone and earth woven into their being, some to a higher extent than others.

The first of these races were born from stone at the dawn of time. These are called the Caementi, for they were literally hewn from the life rock by Thanatos himself as he wished to deploy these beings as guardians of the races that would be added to the world later.

Much later, in the time that Thanatos retreated to his citadel in Limbo, he created two other races. Both very similar to each other in appearance, they were created with separate functions in mind. The Dwarves, as they are called, come in two different variations on Iawat's belly. The Nanus Tumulus, or Hill Dwarf race, was in charge of building the structures on earth needed to maintain a grip on the mortal world from the plane of Limbo. The other Dwarven race was dubbed Nanus Intus, who would be in charge of underground operations, mining, and was given the noble task of producing Caementi from the life rock when so requested by their patron God. The latter are called Deep Dwarves in everyday language and are rarely seen above ground.

The Dwarves have lived on the central continent’s vast mountain ranges since they came into being, which is where deep below the surface the Caementi’s liferock is situated. The land they rule is called Ol’Darza, but as the Dwarves prospered they came to settle many of the known continents and brought their architectural and engineering knowledge with them. They have helped build many of the majestic cities that the civilized races like to boast their greatness with.

The Caementi came along on these Dwarven expeditions more often than not. They sought to bring guidance to the people they met in these lands far from their home. With their inherrent wisdom, granted by their patron Deity, they often serve as advisors to many of the worlds global players, kings, dictators, emperors and senators alike.

Note to GMs and players: the Stonewrought may be difficult to play for inexperienced players, the Caementi even more so than the Dwarves. Caementi are a playable race like all the others however, but they often only appear as a playable race in high powered campaigns, where the starting points are sufficient to build such a powerful being. In such a campaign, the Caementi will be as powerful as the strongest among the other races, but a PC Caementi will never be more powerful than his brethren. Allthough they tend to hoard great knowledge, they are also the worlds Guardians and should act accordingly, observing not only the balance of power in the world, but, perhaps equally important, that amongst themselves.
